Biafo Glacier & Snow Lake Trek
Intro
Venture into the untouched wilderness of the Karakoram with the Biafo Glacier & Snow Lake Trek, a remote and thrilling expedition starting from Askole. Traverse over 60 kilometers of glaciers, ice fields, and high-altitude passes to reach one of the most spectacular and isolated places on Earth — Snow Lake (Lukpe Lawo).
Trek Overview
The Askole to Snow Lake Trek is a 12–15 day adventure that combines raw exploration with surreal natural beauty. Beginning in the legendary village of Askole, the gateway to many Karakoram expeditions, this trek leads you over the Biafo Glacier — the third longest glacier outside the polar regions. Along the way, you’ll cross shimmering ice valleys and glacial basins to reach the mesmerizing Snow Lake, a high-altitude glacial amphitheater surrounded by towering peaks.
Snow Lake, locally known as Lukpe Lawo, is one of the most remote places on Earth — a vast, snowy expanse at the intersection of the Hispar and Biafo glaciers, encircled by 6000–7000m peaks. The trek is physically demanding and best suited for seasoned adventurers seeking solitude, silence, and the raw grandeur of the Karakoram wilderness.
Expect rugged terrain, icy crossings, pristine campsites, and a deep sense of remoteness — making this one of Pakistan’s most elite and unforgettable treks.
